Indoorswomen - Episode 63 - Evil Goatee? Parallel Universe.

You guessed it. We’re talking about parallel universes in pop culture—alternate dimensions, bizarro worlds, multiverses, you name it. If there’s an evil goateed counterpart of a beloved character, we’ve got it covered. Fringe, Buffy, Futurama, and more!

Plus we fan cast adaptations for a couple of our favorite books (both Polish fantasy novels, coincidentally), and we share our random recommendations (Back and Movies with Mikey).

Stay tuned to the end for our off-the-cuff Fringe AU coffee shop fanfic (it's awesome, trust us).

Our awesome intro/outro music is "We Are Highscore" by Krackatoa.

You are invited to our virtual slumber party! Meg and Jen, so rarely in the same place at the same time, got to record this in Jen’s living room, while having a real-life slumber party. With wine.

We play games (the classic Marry Sex Kill, plus a pop culture version of M.A.S.H.). We also talk ‘ships for the first time since our pilot episode. Are you a Bones/Booth shipper? How about Niles/Daphne? Scully/Mulder? Rapunzel/Flynn? Tony/Pepper? Iron Man/Captain America? Shout out to us on twitter: @indoorswomen

In this episode, you get the real “old days of radio” experience listening to Jen pick up her glass and drink from it and set it back down repeatedly. Ice clinking! It’s like we are on Mad Men! Metal Desk + Podcast = Clink Amplification

Correction: in Outlander, Claire is a nurse in WW2 - it has been a few years since I read it! - Jen

We start out playing a new game we dub “Scenarios” - Essentially we each make up a series of geeky/pop cultural scenarios for the other to navigate. It involves Harry Potter and Star Trek! (also this: https://www.pinterest.com/NerdifiedJen/wesley-crusher-sweaters-dont-worry-about-it/)

For the main event, we have Smut Shaming or de-stigmatizing guilty pleasures. We have discussed before that we are adamantly against the concept of “guilty pleasures” - just like what you like and you should not be ashamed of it or made to feel shame because of it. In this segment, we express our love of fanfic and romance novels, defend them from shamers, and explain why they appeal. And, as promised, here are all the books we recommended during the show as well as some extras!

Fanfic book: Textual Poachers by Henry Jenkins

Hi everyone! Welcome to our fanfiction short! You can listen here, download the episode, or listen on itunes or your favorite streaming service.

We originally recorded this as a segment on “books about books/writing” and it turned into a discussion of fanfiction and Rainbow Rowell’s work. Since her latest book “Carry On” came out this week, we figured it was an appropriate time to release! We hope you enjoy and thanks for listening

As usual, our intro/outro music is “We are Highscore” by Krackatoa
